In order to manage the expected 35 million passengers each year, transport links at Terminal 5 have also been incorporated.  For more information on Terminal 5’s transport links, including extension of the London Underground,  read on.

Terminal 5 Transport Links...

Good transport links at Terminal 5 are an essential part of the airport’s infrastructure.  As a result Heathrow Airport has gone to extraordinary   lengths to make access to the new terminal easy and trouble free for travellers.

• Rail Station
• London Underground Extensions
• M25 Spur Road

Rail Station...

The airport has created a six platform rail station that is housed underneath the terminal building, yet provides huge amounts of natural light through it’s translucent roof. From here, a number of 50 person express lifts take passengers to the Departures area of the building.  And for those passengers arriving at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 will gain easy access to the station via escalators in the Arrivals Hall, directly to the ground floor of the station.

London Underground Extensions...

Following a 20 month closure on the Piccadilly Line from Hatton Cross and Heathrow’s Terminal 4, and 1.7km of tunnels, the Piccadilly line extension to Terminal 5 is the first new tube line network since the Jubilee line extension to Stratford in 1999.

This line extension will provide passengers with a faster and more efficient transport link in and out of London from Terminal 5.

M25 Spur Road...

The newly complete M25 spur road to Terminal 5 is motorway standard with dual two-lane carriageways, with hard shoulder.  This Terminal 5 transport link carries a statutory speed limit of 40mph.  Starting from a new roundabout above Heathrow’s Western Perimeter Road, it will pass over the A3044 – Stanwell Moor Road – and cross over the River Colne.  The current M25 interchange at the M25’s Junction 14 will be extended, both north and south, so to accommodate free-flowing connections between this spur road and the main M25.
