Travelling with children and young babies can be very stressful. This guide will answer common concerns and questions, in order for your whole family to relax and enjoy your flight.

Flying with young children, babies and toddlers ...

If you've never travelled before with a baby, toddler or young children the thought can be quite frightening. Rest assured, this useful guide will help take away much of the stress and strain, making you prepared for any 'little emergency' so you can enjoy your pre-flight and flight time.

Seating for young children ...

When travelling with young children or young babies check with your airline their policies for travelling with infants - especially any special seating provisions they may have.

The majority of airlines offer seating to families in their bulkhead seats that come with facilities for your children. A few airlines allow families to pre-book these seats, where as others work on a first come first served basis. Therefore do check with your airline in advance so you are best prepared.

Checking in with young children ...

Check-in for an adult only party can take time so allow extra time for check-in when you are travelling with young children, toddlers and babies - things like nappy changing all takes time! If you have time on your side your whole party will be stress free which will rub off on your children - happy children equals happy parents!

Get to the airport in good time. Bear in mind your airlines check-in times. Remember to allow extra time for airport car parking, traffic delays, road works and such like. If you haven't visited Heathrow Airport before get a route plan before you leave so you are fully prepared and don't run the risk of getting lost.

Make flying with children easier ...

By booking airport parking you will take away the pain of finding somewhere to park on arrival at your airport destination.

For the ultimate in convenience pre-book a meet and greet parking service. All you have to do is drive to the Airport Terminal. No finding a remote car park and loading your family onto a bus!

Help Me Park provide a great Meet and Greet Parking service at Gatwick Airport, there is also a useful guide to children's and family facilities at the airport on the Help Me Park website >>

With meet and greet parking all you need to do is unload your luggage (and children!) outside the airport Terminal, a meet and greet rep will take your car off to a secure carpark. This allows you to check in quickly. It's especially good if you are travelling in the night or very early morning. When you return home your meet and greet rep will be by your car, waiting for you right outside the terminal meaning you can get straight off home!

It's worth asking the Ground Hostess, when checking in, if the flight is full. If it is not then ask for a seat next to an empty one. This way you and your child can have more room. This is particularly useful if the child gets sleepy.

If, as a passenger with children, you are not called for boarding first, do try and be at the front of the queue. This way Cabin Crew will be able to dedicate more time to helping you and your family.

Like anything, the best advice for travelling with young children, toddlers or babies is to be prepared and organised. This way you won't get any nasty surprises and will be prepared for pretty much anything and everything!
